Using Facebook Fan Pages For Instant SEO
So, we all realise by now that Facebook is massive, I’m assuming I don’t need to prove that point before I explain 3 great reasons why you must use it in your own business?
Just in case, here are the headlines from Facebook’s own press page … these were correct as of April 2013:
- More than a billion monthly active users as of December 2012.
- Approximately 82% of our monthly active users are outside the U.S. and Canada.
- 618 million daily active users on average in December 2012.
- 680 million monthly active users who used Facebook mobile products as of December 31, 2012.
A list of big numbers is all very impressive … but if you’re trying to get your CEO interested in social media, or you’re not quite convinced yourself, here is 1 BIG reason (of many!) why your business must get on Facebook fast.
Search Engine Optimisation On Steroids
I’ll admit, I’d been on Facebook for quite a while before the penny dropped on this one.
Most people think that SEO is a dark art, and that only very expensive SEO gurus can harm your web site to the top of Google’s rankings.
But you know, that’s not the case.
With a carefully key-worded Facebook page you can leap straight up the search engines very quickly … no SEO gurus required!
It’s true, while your blog is struggling to make it beyond page 20 on the search engine results, your Fan Page – when set up properly – will very often leap ahead and rank fast, effectively and consistently.
The trick is to decide on what your key-word is going to be – what’s going to be the killer search term that delivers the customers and prospects that you’re looking for?
You need to be consistent about this – and in actual fact, it may end up being your brand, company name or own name in the end.
For instance, Clixeo is a word that doesn’t actually exist – we made it up.
But that makes it great to trademark and establish in the search engines .. so our Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/ClixeoUK and you’ll notice that we use the word ‘Clixeo’ in our vanity URL.
Your Facebook Vanity URL
Have you set your own vanity URL yet?
If not, the image below shows you where to fix it … just head for your Fan Page admin area, and it’s off the ‘Basic Information’ menu:
Your vanity URL should contain your key-word, your business name or your brand (but check Facebook’s terms on brands here first!) … but whatever you use, take some time thinking about it as this will help define where you show up in online searches.
The next step to simple SEO domination is to fully and comprehensively complete your ‘About’ information, as seen in the graphic below:
Make sure you use your main keywords naturally, so that your text appeals to readers … but do make sure that you use them without ‘stuffing’ your text with them.
